Reign of Sin vs Reign of Grace Part 2
Excerpt from Sermon;
Oh Heavenly Father, Creator of the Universe, Heaven, and Earth, let Your Name be Glorified, no Man’s name, but Your Name, prepare our hearts and finite minds, to give us the spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of You, for us to truly Understand who You are…..
Today we will resume our exposition of this most important part of scripture that truly changed my understanding of the work of Christ on the Cross. It really transformed how I understood our Christian Freedom and Liberty that was obtained through the Crosswork of Christ Jesus. Before we begin, let’s do a quick review of last week.
Last week, we learned about Covenantal Headship or commonly known as Federal Headship. Federal Headship is a relationship where an individual represents a larger group and that individual or representative’s actions are imputed onto the larger group. When we are born, we are under the Federal Headship of Adam. When Adam could not obey the one and only command of God, his entire posterity that followed after him inherited his sin and condemned all his descendants to physical, spiritual, and eternal death.
Adam could not ever be our Savior and Federal Headship helps explains this. The Savior that God promised in Genesis 3, could not have a human father because the sin of Adam would be given or inherited in birth to anyone born from a human father. Christ Jesus had no human father and had NO sin in Him because He was God incarnate, He was and still is perfect, which made him uniquely qualified to be our Redeemer. When Christ was nailed to that tree, His righteousness was given, imputed, accredited to us in exchange for all our wickedness, sins, depravity, and all that is evil so we can be justified by God through Christ.
Paul answered the belief of some that if “we to continue in sin that grace may abound” and Paul answers strongly, “God forbid!” He was disgusted with this very thought and the belief of some. Paul’s main question in verse 2 of Chapter 6, and it will be mine today, “How can we who died to sin still live in it? What he is saying is how can any believer live in habitual sin, not to sin, but to live in habitual sin, continual sin.
In Adam, we are in the Reign of Sin, because sins reigns over you. If you are a blood bought believer, you participate in His crucifixion, His death, His burial, you are made alive with him, you were raised with Him on that morning on the third day. You belong to Christ, you are His, you are in Him, which is the Reign of Grace.
